Squash is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, whether at the individual, college or university level. We welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of Squash.

You can join OUSRC as a social member or a squad member.

Anyone can join as a social member, including Oxford University students or staff, Oxford Brookes University students, and individuals from the wider community. The social membership is an ideal way to pick up squash as a beginner, or to keep up your game without committing to the training schedule. The club organises a weekly coached session which is always popular, and the squash leagues/ladders provide a great opportunity to get some more match-play experience and meet other players from the club.

Squad members are selected at the squad trials at the beginning of the academic year, and must be eligible and willing to represent the University of Oxford in fixtures. OUSRC has four teams (two men’s and two women’s) that train and compete over the course of Michaelmas and Hilary terms against other universities in the national BUCS leagues, as well as in a varied private fixture list.

The 2s squads (nicknamed the ‘Squirrels’ on the men’s side and ‘Ferrets’ on the women’s) usually have 10-15 players who come to regular training a couple of times a week. A handful of these players step up to play a match (depending on their availability), either at home or away, most Wednesdays during Michaelmas and Hilary terms. The Blues (1s) benefit from smaller squads and more frequent training, and play a number of private clubs, such as The Queen’s Club and the Armed Forces, as well as other universities. Almost all squad members play in the Varsity Matches against the University of Cambridge in Hilary term, giving about 40 Oxford squash players the opportunity to compete in what is usually a really close and exciting match. For the Blues, Varsity is played at the Royal Automobile Club in London. For the 2s, it alternates between Oxford and Cambridge every year.

Social members (£60/yr for OU students, £75/yr for OU staff and Brookes students, £90 for others) can:

  • Join the Karakal Club to receive 20% off all Karakal products

  • Buy a ‘top-up’ from the Oxford University Sports Federation for only £35, and book squash courts for free (avoiding the usual £7.50 fee for each 45-minute booking)

  • Receive coaching once a week during term-time (usually on Saturdays), which is suitable for beginner and intermediate level players

  • Attend our weekly social squash evenings during term-time, which are suitable for all levels, where you can play casual games against other players

  • Attend the weekly ‘staff team’ training sessions (usually on Sundays), which are suitable for more advanced players

  • Join our members-only WhatsApp and Facebook groups, as well as our PlayWaze community, where you can find other players at all levels to play with

Squad members (£125/yr for Oxford University students) can get all the above benefits from being a social member, and:
